چکیده
We investigate stimulated scattering instabilities of coherent circularly polarized electromagnetic (CPEM) waves carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) in dense quantum plasmas with degenerate electrons and nondegenerate ions. For this purpose, we employ the coupled equations for the CPEM wave vector potential and the driven (by the ponderomotive force of the CPEM waves) equations for the electron and ion plasma oscillations. The electrons are significantly affected by the quantum forces (viz., the quantum statistical pressure, the quantum Bohm potential, as well as the electron exchange and electron correlations due to electron spin), which are included in the framework of the quantum hydrodynamical description of the electrons. Furthermore, our investigation of the stimulated Brillouin instability of coherent CPEM waves uses the generalized ion momentum equation that includes strong ion coupling effects. The nonlinear equations for the coupled CPEM and quantum plasma waves are then analyzed to obtain nonlinear dispersion relations which exhibit stimulated Raman, stimulated Brillouin, and modulational instabilities of CPEM waves carrying OAM. The present results are useful for understanding the origin of scattered light off low-frequency density fluctuations in high-energy density plasmas where quantum effects are eminent.

Stimulated Raman and Brillouin backscattering of collimated beams carrying orbital angular momentum.
We study theoretically the exchange of angular momentum between electromagnetic and electrostatic waves in a plasma, due to the stimulated Raman and Brillouin backscattering processes. Angular momentum states for plasmon and phonon fields are introduced for the first time. We demonstrate that these states can be excited by nonlinear wave mixing, associated with the scattering processes. This co...
متن کاملQuantum field theory of photons with orbital angular momentum
A quantum-field-theory approach is put forward to generalize the concept of classical spatial light beams carrying orbital angular momentum to the single-photon level. This quantization framework is carried out both in the paraxial and nonparaxial regimes. Upon extension to the optical phase space, closed-form expressions are found for a photon Wigner representation describing transformations o...
متن کاملGeneration of High-Purity Millimeter-Wave Orbital Angular Momentum Modes Using Horn Antenna: Theory and Implementation
Twisted electromagnetic waves, of which the helical phase front is called orbital angular momentum (OAM), have been recently explored for quantum information, high speed communication and radar detections. In this context, generation of high purity waves carrying OAM is of great significance and challenge from low frequency band to optical area. Here, a novel strategy of mode combination method...
متن کاملCapacity limits of spatially multiplexed free-space communication
Increasing the information capacity per unit bandwidth has been a perennial goal of scientists and engineers1. Multiplexing of independent degrees of freedom, such as wavelength, polarization and more recently space, has been a preferred method to increase capacity2,3 in both radiofrequency and optical communication. Orbital angular momentum, a physical property of electromagnetic waves discove...
متن کامل[Article] Vortex Waves and Channel Capacity: Hopes and Reality
Several recent contributions have envisioned the possibility of increasing currently exploitable maximum channel capacity of a free space link, both at optical and radio frequencies, by using vortex waves, i.e. carrying Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM). Our objective is to disprove these claims by showing that they are in contradiction with very fundamental properties of Maxwellian fields. We dem...
